Book it! (Because a Bible that is falling apart indicates a life that isn’t!) Part 2

I believe when a Bible is falling apart it indicates a life that isn’t!

In this new series I have a three-pronged goal.  I want you to:

  1. Love the Word!
  2. Learn the Word!
  3. Live the Word!

Let’s begin with some very key verses found in John 1:1-2, 14:  Ïn the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  The same was in the beginning with God.  And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”

You can see from these verses that everything starts with the Word!  Please allow me to share with you “Two Bible Beholdings”:

  1. If you want to know God you must know the Bible
  2. Prayer is talking to God.  The Bible is God talking to us.

Now the Bible is not just an ordinary book, it is alive!  The Bible tell us in John 6:63, Ït is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.”   Notice the word “spirit” in this powerful  verse.   This is the Greek word “pneuma”.  We get our English word “pneumonia” from it.  The word “pneuma” means “breath”.  The King James translators were trying to help us when they translated this word as “spirit”.   It doesn’t seem to make sense to our English speaking minds to say God’s Words are “breath and life”.  However the Greek word actually means “breath”.  God’s words are God-breathed!

This is supported by II Timothy 3:16, Äll scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.”   Now notice the phrase inspiration of God”.  This is the Greek word “theospneustas” which is a Greek compound word.  “Theos” means God and “pneusta” means “breathed”.  Literally all Scripture is “God-breathed”!  If I had a balloon and blew it up you could take a swab of the inside of it and find my DNA.  That’s what this word “theospneustas””indicates is that God’s Word has God’s DNA in it!

The Bible tells us, “Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust” (II Pet. 1:4).   We can literally partake of His Divine nature because of His Divine promises.  God’s Word is not just a normal book…it is alive (see Hebrews 4:12)!

Remember this:  God’s Word is not just informational but transformational!

Join us next month as we continue our series…
